LES ORANGES
Branches heavy with fruit create a scene of quiet abundance. George Barbier conceived this motif around 1912 for the earliest collections published by André Groult, elegantly expressing the spirit of emerging Art Deco.

George Barbier
(1882-1932)
Illustrator, fashion artist, interior designer, and creator of sets and costumes for the theatre, music hall, and cinema, George Barbier embodied the refined sophistication of the 1910s and 1920s. Trained at the prestigious Académie Julian under Jean-Paul Laurens, he emerged as one of the leading artists of La Gazette du Bon Ton, the legendary publication that celebrated the golden age of French decorative arts and Parisian luxury. From 1912 onwards, Barbier exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and embarked on a collaboration with André Groult, one of the defining figures of twentieth-century French design. Blending elegance, exotic influences, and bold geometric compositions, his singular vision gave rise to enduring decorative motifs including Les Perroquets, Pommes, and Chinoiseries, now exquisitely reimagined as exceptional wallpaper collections.
