André Mare

(1885-1932)

Painter and decorator, André Mare was a founding figure of Art Deco. He co-created the Maison Cubiste in 1912 and developed interior design with the Compagnie des Arts Français. His floral designs extended into Groult’s wallpapers. His creations, whether furniture ensembles, wallpapers, textiles, or interior schemes, are now held in the collections of numerous institutions, both under his own name and that of La Compagnie des Arts Français. These include the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Musée Carnavalet, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
