LE SALON DE MUSIQUE

This Directoire-style wallpaper reproduces a design dating from 1799, originally printed from hand-carved woodblocks by the Pauquet manufactory in Paris. Diamond-shaped cartouches and medallions adorned with animals or musical instruments stand out against a striped ground. Particularly popular in music rooms at the turn of the 19th century, the motif takes its name from this decorative use.
